Your Path to Freedom

This month on Monday Medi Moments, we’ve been talking about and meditating on freedom and the fine art of effortlessness.

Pay attention and be mindful.

To experience freedom, we must learn to act by choice rather than by predetermined actions (a.k.a. our habits). The way we find freedom is by letting go of the things that bind us to our past. Binding creates a loop in our thoughts, behaviors, and actions.

The beauty is that we get to choose the quality of our thoughts, actions, and behaviors. It simply takes practice.

Cultivating Your Intention

“What you appreciate appreciates.” ~ Lynne Twist

This month on Monday Medi Moments, we’ve focused a lot on cultivating intention. Cultivating intention is important because it brings focus and purpose to your life. If you’ve been feeling a little off your center lately, cultivating intention is a great exercise for you.

When you think about what you want to cultivate in your life, think about what would fulfill you. Keep in mind that while money and other material objects aren’t bad, they don’t necessarily bring you the most fulfillment. We’re taught from a young age that success means having money, but we want you to go deeper. What do you need right now to feel a greater sense of connection to others? What do you need to feel a deeper love for yourself? What is it that will bring you the most healing?

Why Grounding is the Foundation for a Strong Meditation Practice

Grounding is absolutely one of the four pillars of meditation. So, what makes grounding so important?

It’s presence. We hear and talk about this thing called being present, but what does it do for us? How will we know if we achieve it? What will we feel or see or hear? These are all great questions. Let’s explore them.

Often we get sidetracked or pulled off our center by simple things that aren’t a big deal unless we dwell on them. You might be biking or driving to work and someone cuts you off. Maybe you just had an angry or difficult conversation with a loved one. Even something as simple as a coffee shop running out of your favorite pastry can set you into a tailspin if you don’t pay attention.

We don’t have to get stuck here. In fact, when another person tells us about these experiences, we might think to ourselves, oh, just get over it, it's no big deal. We’ve all been there. These are the things that keep us from being grounded. We allow ourselves to stay attached to small inconveniences. Have you ever been kind of excited to tell someone about the hideous thing that just happened to you? It’s kind of an oxymoron, isn’t it: to be excited to talk about something negative? Sometimes the things we gain from the negative (getting sympathy, for example) are the ways we trick ourselves out of staying grounded.

Manifesting in 2019: Your Mission

We bet some of you have forgotten about how many cool things you did last year. So often, we create a list of goals from a place of lack. With that attitude, all you’re going to do is say, “I want, I want, I want.” If you’re doing that, you’re missing the point. Take a moment to think about what you’re grateful for. Take another moment to recognize what you accomplished in 2018. It might surprise you how much you already have.
