The Month of Unity
June is the month of unity. The Greek goddess, Juno, is the deity of marriage. This month on Monday Medi Moments, we’ve explored unity and connection. How do you create unity in your life? Do you acknowledge and seek connection with people?
As you seek and find connection with others, use these four principles to help deepen those connections:
The four principles of unity are:
-
Self-acceptance: accept yourself for who you are and where you are in life.
-
Acceptance for others: accept others for who they are and where they are in life.
-
Accept your role: we’re all a part of the bigger picture of things. We each play a role in the unity of our larger communities. What’s your role?
-
Gathering all the parts: we’re able to unify when we accept our wholeness.
Self-Acceptance
Practice these steps to deepen your self-acceptance:
-
Be kind to yourself.
-
Notice if and how you’re being overly critical of yourself and others.
-
Accept compliments graciously.
-
Stay present. Pay attention to your behavior.
Accepting Others
Practice these steps to deepen your acceptance for others:
-
Be kind to all others. Being kind to others isn’t the same as not standing up for yourself. You do not have to accept bullying or cruelty from others to accept who they are. In fact, accepting others for who they are will make it easier to move away from the negative people in your life, and do it with integrity.
-
Find commonality. Sometimes it’s more important to find common ground with someone than to be unique. We need to find common ground with others to have compassion.
Accepting Your Role
Practice these steps to find and accept your role within your greater community:
-
Notice the needs of others.
-
Notice the role you play in your community, both small and large. How do you help and what do you offer?
Gathering All The Parts
Practice these steps to fully unify:
-
Acknowledge yourself and your needs. Only then will you be able to acknowledge others.
-
Practice seeing yourself as whole. We can’t see ourselves clearly in all things until we learn to see ourselves as whole. Having the ability to see ourselves in all things allows us to find common ground with others.
-
Be willing to accept all the parts of yourself, even the things you have dismissed in the past.
